THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF JULY 2006 AS

 

PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, through stewardship, the San Mateo County PARK AND RECREATION Division preserves our County’s natural and cultural treasures, and provides safe, accessible parks, recreation and learning opportunities to enhance the community’s quality of life; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the PARKS AND RECREATION profession in San Mateo County and California “Creates Community through People, Parks and Program,” by helping to preserve and protect our natural resources, strengthening our community images and sense of place and increasing our cultural unity and cultural resources; and

   
 

WHEREAS, PARKS AND RECREATION promotes health and wellness and reduces health care costs by fostering human development, helping young people develop and grow into healthy adults and helping adults continue to live longer while strengthening safety and security and reducing juvenile crime; and

   
 

WHEREAS, PARKS AND RECREATION services support more productive workforces, enhance the desirability of locations for business and families, and stimulate tourism revenues to increase a total community development model; and

   
 

WHEREAS, hundreds of San Mateo County children, adults and seniors benefit from the wide range of services, facilities and programs provided by 17 separate county parks in a wide variety of natural settings including a coastside marine reserve, a bayside recreational area, coastal mountain woodland areas, and urban sites,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the month of July, 2006, as “PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH” and urges all residents to enjoy and recognize the social, physical, mental, economic, environmental and community benefits derived from our wonderful San Mateo County parks.
