THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
|
RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING THE HONORABLE
|
AL GIROLAMI
|
The First Gentleman of the Order, Sons of Italy in America

|
|
WHEREAS, AL GIROLAMI was born on July 24, 1939 in Santa Cruz, California to Giulia and Cesare Girolami and, along with his younger sister, Diane, was raised in San Jose; he graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory and continued his education at Santa Clara University where he graduated in June of 1961 with a Bachelor of Science and Commerce, while also serving as a First Lieutenant and Captain in the United States Army Reserves; and

|
WHEREAS, AL GIROLAMI married fellow Santa Clara University student, Vera Ferrara, on January 28, 1961, and they are the proud parents of daughters Catherine and Carol and grandparents to five grandchildren; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, AL GIROLAMI returned to Santa Clara University in 1966 and graduated with a Doctor of Law degree and continued his education through the years taking classes at the California Judicial College in Municipal Court and Superior Court and at the University of Kansas in Economics for Judges; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, AL GIROLAMI, prior to becoming an attorney, served as an insurance claims adjustor and probate law instructor and, after moving to Stanislaus County in 1971, became a Deputy District Attorney, then was appointed Chief Assistant District Attorney in 1974; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, AL GIROLAMI was appointed as a Municipal Court Judge for Stanislaus County in 1984 by Governor Deukmejian and was elected to a new term commencing in January of 1987 and then elected as a Superior Court Judge in June of 1988, where he served until his retirement in January of 2005; and
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, AL GIROLAMI has been an active member and officer of many associations and organizations, is a member of the Associazione Lucchese Nel Mondo and was honored, as was his father, with the Medaglia d’Oro award in Lucca, Italy in 2004 and he became the First Gentleman of the Grand Lodge of California in June of 2005,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends the Honorable AL GIROLAMI for his years of leadership and dedication to family, friends and community in both his private and public life.
