CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH | ||||

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that | ||||
WHEREAS, supportive and nurturing families help children, our most precious resource, become healthy, productive, and well-adjusted adults; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services serves over 20,000 children, over 92% of whom reside in San Mateo County; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services provides critical services to children and families ensuring children have the opportunity to reach their full potential as productive adults and members of our community; and | ||||
WHEREAS, although many parents willingly provide emotional and financial support for their children, San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services takes steps to ensure that even more parents financially support and participate in the lives of their children; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in Fiscal Year 2005, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services obtained orders and established paternity for 1,409 children, collected current support for 77% of the families in the caseload, and obtained an arrears payments for 64.2% of the cases while collecting almost $29 million in support; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services works collaboratively with many community based organizations including the Fatherhood Collaborative of San Mateo County, Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, the Service League of San Mateo County and the California Department of Parole to better meet the needs of the children and parents in our caseload; and | ||||
WHEREAS, increasing public awareness of the importance of this issue through education, media attention and outreach will reinforce the need for all parents to take responsibility for the financial, emotional, and physical support of their children, | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County designate August, 2006, as CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH and commends those who are working to improve the lives of children and families. | ||||
