THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
|
RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING
|
|
Capuchino High School
New Construction and Modernization Project
|

WHEREAS, Capuchino High School in San Bruno, California, one of the six comprehensive high schools in the San Mateo Union High School District, has been providing for fifty-six years innovative and exemplary academic and extracurricular programs for students; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Capuchino High School, a California Distinguished School, has a faculty and staff, supported by the District and the Board of Trustees, that demonstrates a tireless commitment to change and reform necessary to facilitate student achievement, graduating 90% of its students to college; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Capuchino High School offers unique opportunities for its students through highly renowned facilities and programs, supported by major grants, including the “Electronic Arts” Technology Arts Center, the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program, the Step-to-College Program, and the Global Communications Program; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, voters in the San Mateo Union High School District approved the $137.5 million Measure D Bond that the District leveraged with other resources to provide a $234.5 million capital improvement program, of which $42 million was allocated for redesigning the campus with new construction and modernization; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, the District has in place a volunteer Citizen Oversight Committee, appointed by the Board of Trustees, to monitor the expenditure of Measure D funds on the new construction and modernization at Capuchino High School; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, the Measure D modernization and new construction at Capuchino High School is made possible because the Board of Trustees, Superintendent-Retired Thomas C. Mohr, Superintendent Samuel Johnson, Jr., local community leaders, elected officials, parents, school staff, and the public at large volunteered and persevered through several elections to do that which is in the best interest of youth attending high school in the San Mateo Union High School District.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on October 7, 2006, hereby honors and commends the San Mateo Union High School District and Capuchino High School for fulfilling its promise to voters to provide extensive modernization at Capuchino High School to allow for a safe and modern teaching and learning environment.
