The 2006 C.O.P.E. Unity Award Presented By The San Mateo County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO | ||||

WHEREAS, Linda Gregory, born in Seattle and raised in Sacramento, first joined the labor reform effort in the 1960s when her social worker husband, Richard, was fired after he joined a strike with some 300 other public employees; and | ||||
WHEREAS, after the family moved to the Bay Area, Linda started her own public sector career as a clerk with Santa Clara County, became active with SEIU Local 715, rose through the ranks to become research director; and | ||||
WHEREAS, by 1975, Linda was a business agent for AFSCME Council 57, eventually becoming Council 57’s associate director, supporting AFSCME locals throughout Northern California; and | ||||
WHEREAS, through the decades, Linda has worked on countless projects, with one of the most important being the struggle to gain equal pay, regardless of gender, for employees performing comparable work; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Linda has dedicated more than three decades – and counting – to improving the condition of the American worker, including passing on her experiences and knowledge to future generations through the Labor Studies programs at San Jose and San Francisco city colleges. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Linda Gregory for receiving the 2006 C.O.P.E. Unity Award presented by the San Mateo County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. In addition, the Board hereby recognizes Linda for her continuing selfless advocacy on behalf of working men and women – and their families – throughout San Mateo County. | ||||
