RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Linda Gregory

Upon Receiving

The 2006 C.O.P.E. Unity Award

Presented By

WHEREAS, Linda Gregory, born in Seattle and raised in Sacramento, first joined the labor reform effort in the 1960s when her social worker husband, Richard, was fired after he joined a strike with some 300 other public employees; and

WHEREAS, after the family moved to the Bay Area, Linda started her own public sector career as a clerk with Santa Clara County, became active with SEIU Local 715, rose through the ranks to become research director; and

WHEREAS, by 1975, Linda was a business agent for AFSCME Council 57, eventually becoming Council 57’s associate director, supporting AFSCME locals throughout Northern California; and

WHEREAS, through the decades, Linda has worked on countless projects, with one of the most important being the struggle to gain equal pay, regardless of gender, for employees performing comparable work; and

WHEREAS, Linda has dedicated more than three decades – and counting – to improving the condition of the American worker, including passing on her experiences and knowledge to future generations through the Labor Studies programs at San Jose and San Francisco city colleges.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Linda Gregory for receiving the 2006 C.O.P.E. Unity Award presented by the San Mateo County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. In addition, the Board hereby recognizes Linda for her continuing selfless advocacy on behalf of working men and women – and their families – throughout San Mateo County.
