THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 11, 2006 AS

A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

 

WHEREAS, Monday, September 11, 2006, marks the fifth anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001; and

 

 

WHEREAS, on this day, the Peninsula Clergy Network will host September 11 - DAY OF REMEMBRANCE to provide individuals from throughout the Peninsula the opportunity to share in acknowledging the events of that day, those killed or injured and those who gave of themselves on behalf of victims; and

 

 

WHEREAS, the DAY OF REMEMBRANCE will begin at 5:46 AM as a delegation representing clergy, fire fighters, law enforcement, medical personnel, the Red Cross and airline personnel light a candle to designate the Redwood City, City Hall Plaza as a place for individuals to observe this day; and

 

WHEREAS, the DAY OF REMEMBRANCE will conclude at 5:46 PM with a short observance of reflection so individuals can mark the anniversary of this day personally and collectively; and

 

 

WHEREAS, the DAY OF REMEMBRANCE is an opportunity to remember the individuals who lost their lives and were injured on that day, their families and friends and to recognize those who have given of themselves on behalf those in need,

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors proclaims September 11, 2006 as a DAY OF REMEMBRANCE, expresses its appreciation of the clergy of the Peninsula for their capacity to come together in common bond and provide all our residents with this place for personal reflection and renewed remembrance, and call on residents to take personal note of this DAY OF REMEMBRANCE and share in this observance, so that we might renew our sense of common bond which followed the events of September 11, 2001.
