BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

Richard Hom has provided optometry services to the San Mateo Medical Center for the last several years. In particular, these services include general eye health, the diagnosis and identification for diseases of the eye, and clinics for eye injury, trauma, or refractive corrections. Patients treated at SMMC have a continuous need for such eye care services and Richard Hom offers the hospital the benefits of an experienced provider familiar with the complex nature of the County’s patient base.

Because of the increased demand for optometry services at San Mateo Medical Center and its outlying clinics, the maximum total of clinics has been increased from eight to ten half day clinics per week. The new contract is being funded at an increase of 8% to reflect this increase in service.

Risk Management and County Counsel have also approved the Agreement. The contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination and equal benefits.

TERM AND FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the agreement is from September 1, 2006 through August 31, 2007. The maximum amount County shall be obligated to reimburse Contractor under this agreement is $116,457.60. The previous maximum amount of this contract was $91,200. Funds are included in the San Mateo Medical Center's FY2006-07 tentatively adopted budget and will be requested in future budgets.
