RESOLUTION
|
THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING
|
SIQING LU
|

|
WHEREAS, on this sixteenth day of September, 2006, SIQING LU is honored for his gracious generosity and philanthropic selflessness in performing a benefit violin concert for the City of Millbrae School Music Program; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, SIQING LU was born in 1969 in Qingdao, China, and began studying violin at a young age of four years; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, SIQING LU is acknowledged to be one of the most outstanding Chinese violinists of his generation and the most celebrated and well known violinist of China. He has appeared with all major orchestras in China and has appeared as featured soloist with such orchestras as Royal Philharmonic, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Bowl Orchestra, Washington Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Russia National Orchestra, and National Symphony of Taiwan; and
|

WHEREAS, SIQING LU studied at premier music institutions during his formidable years including the Central Conservatory of Music at age 8 as the youngest student ever accepted at the famed institution, with Yehudi Menuhin at his school in London at age 11, advanced study at the Conservatory in Bejing, and later at the Juillard School in New York City; and
|

WHEREAS, SIQING LU has won numerous awards throughout his tenure including being the first Asian violinist to win the First Prize at the prestigious Paganini International Violin Competition in Italy in 1987, as well as competitions in Beijing, England and the United States. He has performed in more than 30 countries in North and South America, Europe and Asia, and has released 4 recordings of the most famous Chinese violin work “Butterfly Lovers” violin concerto. His interpretation is considered best among more than 40 available recordings and sold more than 1 million copies worldwide; and

WHEREAS, SIQING LU is the first Chinese violinist to be sponsored by the Stradivari Society of Chicago, and has worked to promote music exchanges between the United States and China, and plays a priceless 1742 violin loaned to him by the Society.
|
|
|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on this sixteenth day of September, 2006, expresses congratulations and sincere gratitude to SIQING LU for his inspiring contributions to music and for his compassion and goodwill toward the betterment of our community. The Board wishes him much happiness and continued success.
