PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 16 - 21, 2006 AS | ||||
SAN MATEO COUNTYHEART GALLERY WEEK | ||||

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that | ||||
WHEREAS, the HEART GALLERY is a professional traveling photography exhibit featuring children and youth in foster care who are in need of lifelong connections to a committed adult; and | ||||
WHEREAS, October 19, 2006, marks the Opening of the SAN MATEO COUNTY HEART GALLERY Exhibit, which is a partnership of public and private agencies serving children and youth in foster care in the Bay Area; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in the Bay Area there are 83,000 children in foster care of which nearly half are over ten years of age; and | ||||
WHEREAS, by the age of 18, youth “age out” of the foster care system and four thousand youth “age out” annually in California alone, most having no family or adult support; and | ||||
WHEREAS, since a picture is worth a thousand words, the HEART GALLERY gives a human face to the statistics and as a result, there have been over 300 children adopted from six HEART GALLERY exhibit showings across the country and the County of San Mateo now joins with counties in the State of California and elsewhere in recognizing these efforts, | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the week of OCTOBER 16 - 21, 2006 as “SAN MATEO COUNTY HEART GALLERY WEEK” and, along with commending this program, urges its employees and residents to view the photography exhibit at the 411 Gallery on Broadway in Redwood City or online at bayareaheartgallery.com. | ||||
