SUBJECT:

Water Main Relocation at Edison Way and 12th Avenue – North Fair Oaks Area (Project No. MO108, F-36 [373A])

 

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution awarding and authorizing execution of a contract for the relocation of a 16” Redwood City Water Main at Edison Way and 12th Avenue to facilitate the completion of storm drain improvements.

The relocation of the water main will facilitate the installation of a remaining section of 48” storm drainpipe that will improve the storm drain system in this area for the benefit of the public.

 

Background

 

Previous Board Action

Adopted Resolution No. 068284 on September 12, 2006, which adopted plans and specifications, determined prevailing wage scales and called for sealed proposals for the above-mentioned project.

 

History

On Tuesday, October 3, 2006, bids were accepted for this project and subsequently referred to this office for checking and recommendation.

 

Discussion

The bids have been checked and the bid of:

At $106,110 was the lowest bid received.

 

The Engineer’s estimate was $110,000. A summary of the bids received is as follows:

The contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination and equal benefits.

 

A resolution has been approved as to form by County Counsel.

 

Fiscal Impact

The total estimated cost for construction is $116,710, which includes a ten percent (10%) contingency (approximately $10,600) as the work is bid on a unit price basis (i.e., linear feet of pipe installed). The contingency is used to pay the contractor for any additional material placed for the various bid items as payments are based on the actual quantities of materials installed or placed.

 

The project is proposed to be financed with Roadway Improvement Fund (Mitigation Fees), and funds have been appropriated in the Roadway Improvement Fund to finance this work.

 

There is no impact to the General Fund.
