SUBJECT:

Accept a Donation of a Collection of Volumes and Journals Relating to Criminal Justice Administration from Alvin W. Cohn, President, Administration of Justice Systems, Inc.

RECOMMENDATION

Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to accept a donation from Alvin W. Cohn, President, Administration of Justice Services, Inc. of a collection of books and journals related to the field of criminal justice administration, valued at $6,040.

VISION ALIGNMENT

Accepting the donation of this collection aligns with Goals No. 2 and 7 by encouraging civic engagement and volunteerism, as well as maintaining and enhancing public safety of all residents and visitors.

DISCUSSION

The new Youth Services Center will have a Probation Department library which will be stocked with books and journals related to criminal justice issues. The prospective donor has contacted the Probation Department and indicated that he would like to donate 950 books and 160 volumes of the Administrative Science Quarterly journal to our new library. We anticipate that these volumes will form the cornerstone of the collection. These volumes, and other volumes that we will be adding, will enable Probation staff to perform content research on key criminal justice issues.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no cost associated with the acceptance of this gift and thus there is no effect on the net County cost.
