PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING THE NOVEMBER 28, 2006 AS

 

THE GANDHI/KING/IKEDA

“A LEGACY OF BUILDING PEACE”DAY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, the GANDHI/KING/IKEDA exhibit was commissioned by Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter, PhD, D.D., D.H., the Reverend Dean; Professor of Religion, College Archivist and Curator at Morehouse College, the alma mater of Dr. Martin Luther King, to extol humanist virtues and its champions; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the GANDHI/KING/IKEDA exhibit, “A LEGACY OF BUILDING PEACE” celebrates the ideal community that results from humanity’s effort to foster peace and equality for all through non-violent means; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the exhibit conveys the lives and work of Mohandas K. GANDHI, Dr. Martin Luther KING, and Dr. Daisuku IKEDA, three exemplary individuals from three different cultures and nationalities, races and faith traditions whose common path of profound dedication to peace inspires us to live with courage and create peace in the world, starting with ourselves; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the GANDHI/KING/IKEDA exhibit has traveled throughout the world and the United States at many universities and schools, including Queen’s College, University of Northern Ireland, University of Sydney, the University of Missouri, Ohio State University, Cal State Los Angeles, University of Oregon, Princeton University, Yale University, University of California – Berkeley, Boston University, and Stanford University; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the GANDHI/KING/IKEDA exhibit will be on display from November 28, 2006 to December 1, 2006 in the Quad of Notre Dame de Namur University, in sponsorship with the Sequoia Chapter, Crystal Springs Area of the Northern California SGI-USA,

 
 

NOW, THEREFORE, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the opening day of the exhibit, November 28, 2006, as the GANDHI/KING/IKEDA “A LEGACY OF BUILDING PEACE” DAY and encourages all San Mateo County residents to view the exhibit and engage in positive dialogues of building peace in the world.
