RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING COUNTY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL TO THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES (DHS) SEEKING A GRANT FOR FEDERAL FUNDING TO EXPAND HEALTHCARE COVERAGE TO UNINSURED RESIDENTS OF SAN MATEO COUNTY

______________________________________________________________

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the California Department of Health Services (“DHS”) has released a Request for Applications (“RFA”) soliciting, among other entities, counties and related safety net providers, to apply for grant funding to expand healthcare coverage to uninsured residents of this State; and

WHEREAS, a cross-departmental planning group of the County of San Mateo, working in collaboration with the County’s Community Health Center partner in the South County, the Ravenswood Family Health Center, has developed an initiative proposal entitled “The San Mateo Chronic Disease Initiative” that would be well-positioned to seek grant funding under the RFA; and

WHEREAS, this Board has considered the San Mateo Chronic Disease Initiative and believes that it is appropriate to submit it as a grant application to the DHS pursuant to the RFA; and

WHEREAS, this Board concludes that any grant funds received as a result of the County’s application under the RFA would be intended to strengthen the County’s entire safety net system, including the portion of the system provided by the Ravenswood Family Health Center, and that the County’s application to the DHS should include the Ravenswood Family Health Center as a co-applicant; and

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the County Manager is authorized to submit to the DHS the “San Mateo Chronic Disease Initiative” as an application pursuant to the RFA and that the County may include the Ravenswood Family Health Center as a co-applicant on this application.
