THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

BRENDA BENNETT

2006 Women In County Government Community Service Award Recipient ***************************************

 

WHEREAS, for the past 25 years, BRENDA BENNETT has been a member of the SGI-USA, an international group whose activities are devoted to the promotion of peace, culture and education, based on the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin; and, for the past 23 years, she has been a lay leader of SGI-USA, which has been evident in the skill with which she makes people comfortable while resolving their concerns regarding issues and policies at work; and

   
 

WHEREAS, for the past four years, BRENDA BENNETT has served as the SGI Sequoia Chapter Leader for 100 members residing in Redwood City, Redwood Shores, San Carlos, Belmont and Woodside and is responsible, with co-leaders, for cultural, educational and peace-building activities, such as the November 28 – December 1, 2006 showing of the Gandhi-King-Ikeda Peace Exhibit at Notre Dame de Namur University; and

   
 

WHEREAS, BRENDA BENNETT is a five year member of the SGI Crystal Springs Cultural Department and supporter of the Concerts for Peace Series and the activities of the International Committee of Artists for Peace; and

 

 

WHEREAS, BRENDA BENNETT is a three year member of the Sequoia Art Group in Redwood City and the current Board Treasurer and has served as a juror for the middle and high school division of the Sequoia Art Group’s Spring Art Show; and

   
 

WHEREAS, BRENDA BENNETT is a successful, juried, visual artist of watercolors, oils and mixed media who has shown with the Fairfield Visual Arts Association and at the Redwood City Main Library, Redwood City City Hall, Maggie’s Art Gallery in San Carlos, and the Burlingame Recreation Center Art Gallery,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby extends their hearty congratulations to BRENDA BENNETT on being the recipient of the Women In County Government’s 2006 Community Service Award and wishes her continued success in the years to come.
