THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

JOANNE WARD

2006 Women In County Government Public Service – the Extra Mile Award Recipient

WHEREAS, as Principal Management Analyst in the County Managers Office Budget and Performance Unit, JOANNE WARD has shown great leadership in demonstrating the highest level of planning, organization and attention to detail essential to the position she holds; and

WHEREAS, when the need for training successors to retiring managers was identified, JOANNE WARD, the Unit’s “go to” person, stepped up to the challenge by creating a Fiscal Officer’s Training Academy which included developing training manuals, class exercises, slide presentations, and evaluation tools, as well as managing the administrative tasks involved in such a project; and

WHEREAS, JOANNE WARD continually strives to upgrade the Academy’s program by reviewing the results of all evaluations and feedback and incorporating improvements and even customizing the project to fit departmental needs, as well as creatively injecting interest and fun into what can sometimes be “dry” material; and

WHEREAS, JOANNE WARD, in addition to her assigned tasks, has passionately provided thoughtful mentoring and support to others, especially new Analysts, spending time to train and familiarize them in their new responsibilities and County processes and, she also took on the task of overhauling the Analyst Handbook making it a more comprehensive “why and how to” resource; and

WHEREAS, JOANNE WARD has now begun managing the re-energized Rotational Analyst Program, which will provide Management Analysts in the County an opportunity to obtain leadership experience in County departments in an effort to create a talent pool for future management positions,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby extends their hearty congratulations to JOANNE WARD on being the recipient of the Women In County Government’s 2006 Public Service – the Extra Mile Award and wishes her continued success in the years to come.
