THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

ANA NAVARRO

2006 Women In County Government Special Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

WHEREAS, in 1975 after arriving from El Salvador, ANA NAVARRO began working 30 years ago with the County of San Mateo as extra help in the County Clerk’s office, but three months later, she accepted a full-time position in the County Manager’s Office as an interpreter; and

   
 

WHEREAS, in the years that followed, ANA NAVARRO became involved in mediation and began handling landlord-tenant cases, working closely with the District Attorney’s office and expanding the County’s Mediation Program to include a broad range of disputes that have arisen from consumer complaints throughout the twenty cities in San Mateo County; and

   
 

WHEREAS, for more than twenty years, ANA NAVARRO has been working with individual and class action small claims cases, serving a countless number of people within the county, willingly educating the public, and offering a thoughtful environment in which people can discuss their problems and reach a settlement; and

 

 

WHEREAS, throughout the years, ANA NAVARRO has continually offered her services of interpreter and translation to many departments and especially to the underserved Spanish-speaking community, during mediations and community events, such as Community Law Night, and has worked closely with the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center and currently serves on their Board of Directors; and

   
 

WHEREAS, in addition, ANA NAVARRO has recruited and retained volunteer mediators, some whom have worked with her more than twenty years, and has passionately volunteered her own time and energy with the Latino Library Advisory Committee, the American Heart Association and Women In County Government,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby extends their hearty congratulations to ANA NAVARRO on being the recipient of the Women In County Government’s 2006 Special Lifetime Achievement Award and wishes her continued success in the years to come.
