THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS | ||||
RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING | ||||
MARK AVELAR | ||||

WHEREAS, MARK AVELAR served the students of San Mateo county for 37 years as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and district administrator; and | ||||
WHEREAS, MARK AVELAR served as principal of two high schools: El Camino High School (1989-1992) and Aragon High School (1992-1996) and one junior high, Alta Loma (1985-1989); and | ||||
WHEREAS, MARK AVELAR, is a past President of the Association of California School Administrators, Region V (San Mateo and San Francisco Counties), and was the 2006 Association of California School Administrators Administrator of the Year in Curriculum and Instruction for Region V; and | ||||
WHEREAS, MARK AVELAR is a past member of the San Francisco State University Secondary Education Advisory, and past President and member of the Executive Board of the University of San Francisco Education Alumni Society; and | ||||
WHEREAS, MARK AVELAR is a chair and member of more than fifteen Western Association of Schools and Colleges Visitation Committees; and | ||||
WHEREAS, MARK AVELAR, through his leadership as San Mateo Union High School District’s Associate/Deputy Superintendent, has achieved significant success in closing the achievement gap in San Mateo County high schools; and | ||||
WHEREAS, MARK AVELAR is President-Elect of the San Mateo Rotary and has assisted this organization in developing scholarship and recognition programs for students, | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends MARK AVELAR for his years of dedicated leadership to the education of San Mateo County’s youth and his service to the community. | ||||
