THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

GAYLE HAWKINS

Upon her retirement from the County of San Mateo

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, GAYLE HAWKINS, a graduate of Boaz High School and Huntsville Alabama Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, began her thirty-two year career in the Radiology Department at Harold D. Chope Community Hospital as a Staff Technologist, continued as a Senior Technologist, and in May of 1986 was promoted to Clinical Services Manager; and

   
 

WHEREAS, GAYLE HAWKINS, as manager of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at San Mateo Medical Center for more than 20 years has proven her commitment to service excellence and improving the delivery of care in the areas of Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Computed Tomography, Mammography, Diagnostic Radiology, and Cardiology while maintaining compliance with the California Department of Health Services, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, and the American College of Radiology; and

   
 

WHEREAS, GAYLE HAWKINS, working in partnership with the Latina Breast Cancer Agency and the African American Health Advisory Committee implemented an outreach and educational program to provide high quality, low cost mammograms to the women of San Mateo County, and secured a grant from the Komen Foundation in 2000 to purchase and implement a computer software program that expedites and delivers mammography results to patients and their providers, and collaborated with the San Mateo Medical Center Foundation to fund the replacement of outdated mammography and ultrasound equipment; and

   
 

WHEREAS, GAYLE HAWKINS, in conjunction with the architectural and construction firms retained by the County, worked to design and build a state-of-the-art Imaging Department in the new Diagnostic and Treatment Building of the San Mateo Medical Center, moving into the new Department in 2001; and, in 2003, GAYLE HAWKINS, facilitated the implementation of a new mobile MRI service to provide previously unavailable on-site MRI imaging services at the Medical Center; and

   
 

WHEREAS, GAYLE HAWKINS, as a founding member of Chope Champions, an employee-based philanthropic organization designed to raise funds for equipment and programs for the staff and patients of San Mateo Medical Center, participated in fundraising events with pride, enthusiasm and a sense of humor, and in the process helped raise over $275,000 to benefit the community of San Mateo Medical Center, and received special commendation from the Board of Supervisors in 1998 for her service as a member of Chope Champions,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby extends their gratitude to GAYLE HAWKINS for her leadership, creativity, dedication and commitment to the people of San Mateo County and wishes her all the best in the next phase of her life.
