SUBJECT:
Amendment to the Salary and Benefits for Elected Officials and Certain Unrepresented Management Personnel to Increase the Travel Allowance
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt a resolution amending Resolution 68419 concerning the transportation allowance for elected officials and certain unrepresented management personnel.
BACKGROUND:
Benefits for unrepresented management personnel including county elected officials are contained in Resolution 68419 “Expressing the Salary and Benefits of Unrepresented Management Personnel of the County of San Mateo” adopted by the Board on December 5, 2006.
DISCUSSION:
Beginning January 1, 2007, the Internal Revenue Service’s standard mileage reimbursement rate for employees will be increased to $.485 per mile from $.445 per mile for 2006, almost a 10% increase.
Elected officials, Department Heads, and management employees designated by the County Manager may elect to receive such a transportation allowance in lieu of mileage reimbursement. The rates reflected in the management resolution have been in effect since October 4, 2005. The requested action would similarly increase the maximum transportation allowances by 10% from $385 to $425 each pay period.
