RESOLUTION APPROVING AN INCREASE IN PENALTIES ON SPECIFIC OFFENSES INCLUDING MOVING TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS BY TWO DOLLARS FOR EVERY TEN DOLLARS COLLECTED TO PROVIDE A SPECIFIED SHARE FOR PEDIATRIC TRAUMA CARE AND ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR MADDY FUND RECIPIENTS

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, more than twenty years ago San Mateo County established its Maddy Fund for the purposes of reimbursing physicians and hospitals for uncompensated emergency medical care and for other emergency medical services purposes ; and

 

WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1773, which was passed in September 2006, permits the Board of Supervisors to levy a penalty of two dollars for every ten dollars of fines, penalties, and forfeitures collected for specified offenses to be used for designated emergency- medical-services-related purposes including pediatric trauma care, provided that the increased penalties do not offset or reduce the funding from other sources:

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the increased penalties allowed in Senate Bill 1773 for the purposes of supporting emergency medical services be levied.
