RESOLUTION

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING THE HONORABLE

MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN

Upon his retirement from Teamsters’ Union Local #856

***************************************

WHEREAS, a Teamster since 1970, MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN has served as the Principal Officer of the largest Teamster Local in Northern and Central California; and

WHEREAS, a native of San Francisco, MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN graduated from St. Patrick’s College Seminary, earned a teaching credential from the University of San Francisco, and attended Lincoln University Law School, graduating as Class Valedictorian in 1972; and

WHEREAS, MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN was admitted to the California State Bar in 1972 and then found his way to San Mateo County where he worked in the County Counsel’s office specializing in Labor Relations; and

WHEREAS, MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN was hired by Local 856 in 1974 and, during his tenure, has served as a Trustee, Recording Secretary, and since 1994 as Secretary-Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN has served as a Western Region Director of the Teamster Public Services Division, a Board Member of the Teamsters Assistance Program, a member of the Teamster Public Affairs Council’s Policy Committee and is a past member of the Wage Board for the Transportation Industry; and

WHEREAS, married for 40 years to Nancy McLaughlin and the proud parents of four grown children and four grandchildren, MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN has been active in his community as a Parish Council member at St. Lucy’s Church in Campbell and St. Nicholas’ in Los Altos, and has coached Little League baseball, AYSO Soccer, and grammar school basketball,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends MICHAEL J. McLAUGHLIN for his leadership, dedication and commitment to the labor community of San Mateo County and wishes him all the best in the next phase of his life.
