BACKGROUND

The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.

Our Employee of the Month for February 2007 is Anthony Askew, a Computer Operator II in the Information Services Department.

DISCUSSION

Anthony, “Tony”, Askew came to work for the County 2 ½ years ago in an extra help capacity and was hired into a regular part-time computer operator 1 ½ year ago working night shifts. Tony consistently goes over and above the call of duty. As an example, Tony makes courtesy calls to the Triage Analysts (IT on call support staff) on the weekend to let them know everything is fine before he goes off his shift. Tony is very responsive to all of the 24/7 departments (after hours), always professional and pleasant with an upbeat attitude. Tony does more than just manage and monitor systems in the data center. He also wears the hats of desktop and help desk analyst and operator. Tony is always willing to step up when needed and, because he does such a fine job, he prevents the need of on-call staff having to come on site by being their eyes and ears. Tony also works with vendors to resolve problems.

Tony was nominated by Marcia Buckwalter, a Pharmacist, at the San Mateo Medical Center. Ms Buckwalter nominated Tony for his immediate response to computer problems, friendliness and sense of humor, which many times made difficult situations more palatable.

In summary, Tony does not shy away from hard work or work that may be beyond the scope of his responsibilities. He is willing to resolve problems and does it with a terrific attitude.

Our County is fortunate to have Anthony Askew as one of its outstanding employees.
