Acceptance of a Grant Award from The San Francisco Foundation

 

RECOMMENDATION:

A.

Adopt a Resolution:

   
 

1.

Accepting a grant from The San Francisco Foundation in the amount of $80,000 to support and expand dental services and oral health education for low-income pregnant women and their young children.

   
 

2.

Authorizing the execution of an Agreement with The San Francisco Foundation to implement the program for the term October 1, 2006 to March 31, 2009

   

B.

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request (ATR) to accept unanticipated revenue ($25,750) and appropriate new revenue to Regular Hour – Permanent Positions ($12,000), Contract Special Program Services ($8,000), Other Professional Contract Services ($4,500), and other Special Department Services ($1,250)

This grant contributes to this commitment and goal by giving San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) the opportunity to define and address the oral health needs of pregnant women and their young children.

A database will be created of low-income pregnant women to evaluate needs, appropriate treatment and service delivery locations.

 

BACKGROUND:

In August 2006, in collaboration with the Department of Public Health, SMMC applied for a grant from the San Francisco Foundation. The primary purpose of the grant is to support and expand dental services and the oral health education delivery link for low-income pregnant women throughout San Mateo County.

 

DISCUSSION:

On November 20, 2006. The San Francisco Foundation approved a grant to SMMC in the amount of $80,000 for 30 months to determine the oral health needs of low-income pregnant women and their children. The goal of the program is support and expand dental services and oral health education for low-income pregnant women and their young children.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The grant from San Francisco Foundation will not exceed $80,000 during entire term of the Agreement. The term of the Agreement with the San Francisco Foundation is October 1, 2006 to March 31, 2009. The ATR will add $25,750 to the FY2006-07 Adopted Budget. Administrative oversight, technical assistance, and project monitoring will be provided by existing SMMC Clinics staff. There is no net county cost associated with this project.
