Resolution Prohibiting Pedestrian Crossing at the Intersection of
Santa Cruz Avenue and Palo Alto Way, Menlo Park Area

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, section 21106 of the State of California Vehicle Code allows a local agency to prohibit crossing at crosswalks with the use of signage in public rights-of-ways; and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has determined that there is insufficient demand for a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Santa Cruz Avenue and Palo Alto Way; and

 

WHEREAS, there currently exist signal controlled crossings in close proximity to the intersection of Santa Cruz Avenue and Palo Alto Way that provide better alternatives to pedestrians wishing to cross Santa Cruz Avenue; and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has recommended removal of the pedestrian crosswalk from the intersection of Santa Cruz Avenue and Palo Alto Way and posting signs prohibiting pedestrian crossing and directing pedestrians to nearby signal-controlled crossings in order to provide for the more orderly movement of pedestrians and vehicle traffic; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board of Supervisors has reviewed and concurs with the recommendation of the Director of Public Works.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that:

 

1.

Pedestrians are prohibited to cross at the following location:

On SANTA CRUZ AVENUE at PALO ALTO WAY.

 

2.

The Department of Public Works is authorized to post signs prohibiting pedestrians from crossing SANTA CRUZ AVENUE at PALO ALTO WAY, Menlo Park Area.

 

3.

Said prohibition shall remain in effect until rescinded by the Board of Supervisors.
