Marsha Riley joined the Human Services Agency in 1976 as a Social Worker in the East Palo Alto office. She faced a layoff due to Proposition 13 and worked as a Shelter Care Counselor at the Receiving home for 9 months before being re-hired as a Social Worker in the Dependent Children’s Unit, now known as the Department of Children and Family Services (C&FS). Marsha has covered numerous caseloads in a variety of program areas over the course of her career including Long Term Placement, Emergency Response, Court Investigations, night/weekend Social Worker and Family Maintenance/Family Reunification. In her current assignment at the Child Protective Services Hotline, Marsha screens reports of child neglect and conducts risk assessments with the reporting parties before forwarding the reports to the Regional offices for investigation. Marsha has also organized and coordinated several fundraising events for the Children’s Fund.
With 31 years of service, Marsha is the longest serving Social Worker in C&FS. Marsha’s extensive experience allows her to serve as a mentor by sharing her knowledge, skills and leadership with Child Welfare staff in the screening unit. Her insight, understanding and commitment to children is exemplified in her work In a division that has multiple staffing changes and turnover, Marsha’s understanding of the history behind how our child welfare systems have developed provide continuity in services to families. She is truly committed to ensuring that the highest level of service is provided to our clients.
