COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING MARCH 2007 AS

National Social Work Month

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, every day, in communities large and small in San Mateo County, thousands of tireless social workers guide individuals and families through life’s complexities; and

   

WHEREAS, social workers often find themselves on the front lines in the continuing battle against child or senior abuse, domestic violence, family dysfunction, isolation and post-traumatic stress; and

   

WHEREAS, from adoptions to addiction to disaster relief to geriatrics, social workers serve in schools, hospitals, senior centers and private organizations helping to change and improve lives; and

   

WHEREAS, in San Mateo County alone, some 138 social workers with the Human Services Agency meet the needs of more than 4,000 clients throughout the Peninsula, and often travel to other parts of the state and country to fulfill their responsibilities; and

   

WHEREAS, the dedication and sacrifices of social workers deserve recognition because the work they do is critical to the progress of society as measured by how it treats its least fortunate and how it heals itself.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County, State of California, designates March 2007 as National Social Work Month, and encourages the public to acknowledge and applaud the tremendous contributions by social workers toward make the Peninsula a better place for all.
