Vision Alignment | ||||
Commitment: Ensure basic health and safety for all.
Goal 7: Maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors.
Authorizing the extension of the agreement will provide a parking location for spectators attending the Contest which will help alleviate access and safety concerns in the Princeton area during the event.
Background | ||||
Previous Board Action | ||||
Adopted a resolution on January 9, 2007, authorizing an agreement between Mavericks and the County allowing them to park vehicles at the Airport during their one-day Contest through March 31, 2007.
History | ||||
The Contest takes place annually off Pillar Point approximately one mile southwest of the Airport. The Contest lasts for one day and attracts approximately 30,000 spectators. The specific date of the Contest is not known until just days before it takes place as the Contest is dependent on surf conditions. The Contest is normally scheduled to take place between January and March of each year. An increase in the number of spectators attending the Contest in recent years and the lack of available parking has resulted in significant access and congestion problems in the neighboring communities and roadways. Poor surf conditions thus far this year have prevented Mavericks from holding the Contest and they have requested that we extend the term of the agreement to allow additional time for surf conditions to improve in order to hold the Contest.
Discussion | ||||
Section 25536 of the Government Code provides that a board of supervisors, by 4/5ths vote, may enter into concession agreements to allow activities on county airport property.
The proposed amendment will extend the term of the agreement between Mavericks and the County which authorizes them to use a portion of the Airport for the parking of vehicles during their one-day event until April 22, 2007, with an option of an extension for one additional month at the County’s sole discretion.
The proposed Resolution also gives the County Manager, or his designee, the authority to sign notices, approvals and other documents in connection with the Agreement or Amendment.
A resolution and agreement have been approved as to form by County Counsel and Mavericks has executed the agreement.
Fiscal Impact | ||||
Mavericks will reimburse the Airport Fund $10 for each vehicle parked at the Airport during the event.
There is no impact to the General Fund. |
