Recommended Revision to the Salary Ordinance

Recommendation

Adopt an ordinance amending the salary ordinance and accept the report on the total number of positions in the County.

Government decisions are based on careful consideration of future impact, rather than temporary relief or immediate gain.

The reclassification of ten positions will assist departments in meeting their individual performance expectations by assuring that they have staff with the skills necessary to perform the work.

Background

Each year following budget deliberations your Board adopts the annual salary ordinance. The ordinance enacts the decisions made during budget hearings concerning the number of positions in the County service. Throughout the year, because of changes in the operating needs of departments, salary ordinance amendments are recommended that make changes to department staffing configurations.

Discussion

The salary ordinance changes herein represent:

reclassifying five filled and five vacant positions.

These actions were approved for study by the County Manager's Office and the amendment has been reviewed by the County Counsel’s Office.

The specific actions are discussed in detail below.

ORGANIZATION 17000 HUMAN RESOURCES

Action:

Reclassify: One position of E464, Office Specialist - Confidential

Biweekly Salary: $1,480.80 - $1,851.20

Approximate Monthly Salary: $3,209.00 - $4,011.00

To: One position of E013, Human Resources Technician - Confidential

Biweekly Salary: $1,784.80 - $2,231.20

Approximate Monthly Salary: $3,867.00 - $4,835.00

Explanation:

This is the reclassification of one vacant position of Office Specialist to the classification of Human Resources Technician. This position has been studied and determined to be appropriately classified as Human Resources Technician. This action represents a monthly salary and benefits cost of $1,129. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.
