THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
*RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING*
DR. GEORGE TORNEY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR PYRAMID ALTERNATIVES 1976-2007
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
WHEREAS, George Torney has served San Mateo County as Executive Director of Pyramid Alternatives for 31 years, during which time he aimed to provide the highest standards of service that is community based, culturally relevant and responsive to the changing needs of the residents of San Mateo County; and

WHEREAS, George Torney expanded services to San Mateo County opening offices in Pacifica, San Bruno, South San Francisco and Half Moon Bay; and

WHEREAS, Pyramid services also expanded to reach children, individuals and families in schools, senior and community centers, adult and juvenile probation, and San Mateo County offices; and

WHEREAS, Pyramid has offered a wide range of counseling and education in the fields of: substance abuse, domestic violence, anger management, parenting, first and multiple drinking driver programs and mental health; and

WHEREAS, Pyramid has become an essential partner with the County of San Mateo’s Health and Human Service Department, Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Services and Mental Health, and the Department of Probation to reduce the effects of social issues on community systems and promote health, self reliance, resiliency, independence, and strength in families; and

WHEREAS, George Torney is now retiring, and Janeen Smith is assuming the Executive Director role of Pyramid Alternatives.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on April 27, 2007, expresses our deepest appreciation to George Torney for his years of service to San Mateo County residents, and extends our best wishes to Pyramid Alternatives for continued success in all its endeavors.
