RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Steve Hawthorne

Upon his retirement after 35 years with the

City of Daly City

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Steve Hawthorne, a Daly City native and Jefferson High School alumnus, started his public service career in August 1971 as a utility worker for the Public Works Division; Steve’s second career started November 1978, when he joined the Daly City Police Department and served as an officer for eight years; and

   

WHEREAS, Steve launched a third career on July 1, 1986, when he joined the Daly City Fire Department as a firefighter, reaching the rank of fire captain on Nov. 5, 1991, and battalion chief on Sept. 29, 1998; and

   

WHEREAS, Over the years, Steve has imparted knowledge as an instructor at the San Mateo County Firefighter Academy, and earned numerous letters of appreciation for his leadership, not just on emergency calls, but also for service projects, including Operations Santa Claus, Kops & Kids, School Safety Patrol, Make-A-Difference Day and teaching CPR classes for the American Heart Association; and

   

WHEREAS, Steve received a Certificate of Commendation from Daly City for his role as incident commander at a four-alarm fire at 15 Poncetta Drive during the early morning hours of Nov. 2, 1998; and

   

WHEREAS, Steve has distinguished himself as one of “Daly City’s Bravest,” a leader of his fellow firefighters, a protector of Daly City and a role model for its youth.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Steve Hawthorne upon his retirement after 35 years of dedicated service to the City of Daly City. The Board hereby extends sincere wishes to Steve and his family for luck in all future endeavors, plus many years of continuous peace and happiness.
