RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Eugene L. Herrera

Upon the Celebration of His

100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Eugene L. Herrera was born April 11, 1907, into a Native American family in the Almaden Valley region of Santa Clara County; he was the third child out of 11 total siblings; and

   

WHEREAS, Gene was raised in the San Jose area, where he worked as a skilled welder for Kaiser Industries and Sunset Scavengers; and

   

WHEREAS, Gene married his wife Concetta in 1937, and together they raised two children, Robert and Nancy, who have given Gene and Concetta four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and

   

WHEREAS, soon after World War II, Gene moved to San Francisco so he could earn extra income playing the saxophone at the nightclubs, while still working as a welder; and

   

WHEREAS, an avid golfer for years, Gene has lived in Broadmoor since 1973, and through the decades Gene has continued to entertain family, friends and neighbors with his music.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Eugene L. Herrera upon the celebration of his 100th birthday, and extends sincere wishes to him and his family for many more years of peace, health and happiness.
