RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

John Powell

Upon his retirement after more than 33 years with the

Daly City Fire Department

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, John Powell, a Daly City native and Jefferson High School alumnus, joined the Daly City Fire Department on May 1, 1973, as a firefighter, rising through the ranks to fire captain on May 26, 1981 and battalion chief on May 26, 1998; and

   

WHEREAS, Over the years, John has served as the department’s safety officer, plus other administrative as well as operational roles, including overseeing the secretarial staff, preparing budgets and representing the chief to other agencies; and

   

WHEREAS, John’s leadership as chair of the Apparatus Committee was instrumental in establishing specifications for the department’s current fire equipment, including all vehicles, to improve service for the community; and

   

WHEREAS, John researched and created northern San Mateo County’s Enhanced Emergency Deployment Plan and coordinated regional implementation, resulting in tremendous improvements for advanced life support and emergency rescue response; and

   

WHEREAS, In 1993, John’s peers selected him as Firefighter of the Year, followed in 1995 as that year’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Honoree for his service; and

   

WHEREAS, John has distinguished himself as one of “Daly City’s Bravest,” a leader of his fellow firefighters, a protector of Daly City and a role model for its youth.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates John Powell upon his retirement from the Daly City Fire Department after more than 33 years of dedicated service. The Board hereby extends sincere wishes to John and his family for luck in all future endeavors, plus many years of continuous peace and happiness.
