COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Jim Vickery

Upon his retirement after 32 years with the

Daly City Fire Department

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Jim Vickery joined the Daly City Fire Department on December 16, 1974, as a firefighter, and achieved the rank of engineer-operator on July 1, 1980, and whose experience allowed him to serve numerous shifts as acting captain; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Jim was instrumental in the creation of new, equipment and tool brackets that improved access by firefighters; as a senior engineer-operator, Jim’s knowledge regarding equipment use underscored his role as a department resource and as a mentor to younger colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Jim served for a decade as president of the Daly City Firefighters Union, Local 1879, and held a seat on its board of directors for 16 years; and

WHEREAS, Jim demonstrated community dedication through his involvement in the Daly City Fire Department’s H.E.R.O.E.S. program, the Knights of Columbus Fun Days, various Muscular Dystrophy Association events and Operation Santa Claus; he also managed the department’s softball team and participated in the DCFD Hook and Ladder Muster Team; and

WHEREAS, Jim has distinguished himself as one of “Daly City’s Bravest,” a leader of his fellow firefighters, a protector of Daly City and a role model for its youth.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Jim Vickery upon his retirement from the Daly City Fire Department after 32 years of dedicated service. The Board hereby extends sincere wishes to Jim and his family for luck in all future endeavors, plus many years of continuous peace and happiness.
