RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF H.R. 1424 (KENNEDY), MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION EQUITY ACT OF 2007

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, H.R. 1424 would create greater nationwide access to mental health and addiction treatment by prohibiting health insurers from placing discriminatory restrictions on such treatments; and

WHEREAS, H.R. 1424 would require group health plans that offer benefits for mental health and addiction to do so on the same terms as care for other diseases; and

WHEREAS, in February 2007, Congresswoman Eshoo hosted a Congressional Forum in San Mateo County, at which several advocates from San Mateo County spoke in support of increased parity for mental health and addiction treatment in insurance services.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors by adoption of this resolution supports H.R. 1424, the Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007.
