PROCLAMATION

   

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

CITY OF MILLBRAE’S 2007 EARTH DAY PARK CLEAN-UP & FAIR

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the first Earth Day proclamation was issued by San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto on March 21, 1970; and

   

WHEREAS, United States Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for an Environmental Teach-in or Earth Day to be held on April 22, 1970; and

   

WHEREAS, 20 million people participated in the first Earth Day; and

   

WHEREAS, it is now observed each year by more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries; and

   

WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae organized volunteers who picked up litter at Meadows Park, and the city further promoted environmental awareness at the fair.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, commends and honors the City of Millbrae’s 2007 Earth Day Park Clean-Up & Fair, and recognizes the city’s commitment to a cleaner environment.
