THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND
COMMENDING |
CITY OF MILLBRAE’S
2007 EARTH DAY PARK CLEAN-UP & FAIR |

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * |
WHEREAS, the
first Earth Day proclamation was issued by San Francisco Mayor Joseph
Alioto on March 21, 1970; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, United
States Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for an Environmental
Teach-in or Earth Day to be held on April 22, 1970; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, 20
million people participated in the first Earth Day; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, it is now observed each
year by more than 500 million people and national governments in 175
countries; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae
organized volunteers who picked up litter at Meadows Park, and the city
further promoted environmental awareness at the fair. |
|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State
of California, commends and honors the City of Millbrae’s 2007 Earth Day
Park Clean-Up & Fair, and recognizes the city’s commitment to a
cleaner environment. |
|
