BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO FOR DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS TO SAN MATEO COUNTY AS PART OF THE FY2006 SUPER URBAN AREA SECURITY INITIATIVE (SUASI) FEDERAL GRANT

 

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that:

 

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo has previously received federal Department of Homeland Security grant funds through the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program, for which the City and County of San Francisco serves as the lead agency and contracts with the recipient agencies for the distribution of the funds; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2006, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) combined Bay Area governmental jurisdictions into one “Super” Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) regions for the purpose of distribution of federal Homeland Security grant funds in fiscal year 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, in June 2006, $22,656,000 was awarded to the Bay Area SUASI region, which is comprised of three core cities; San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose; 10 bay area counties; and over 100 incorporated cities; and

 

WHEREAS, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (SFDEM) has been designated to serve as the local administrator of the FY2006 SUASI grant award; and

 

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo is one of the contiguous counties and mutual aid partners for the greater San Francisco urban region, and has been selected to partner with the City and receive a portion of funding from the FY2006 SUASI grant; and

 

WHEREAS, as part of the FY2006 grant requirements, the County of San Mateo must enter into an Agreement with the City and County of San Francisco to receive a portion of the grant award, in the amount of Two Hundred Eighty-Seven Thousand One Hundred Twenty-Four Dollars ($287,124), which has been designated to fund several public educational outreach projects as well as support for the West Bay Terrorism Early Warning Group (TEWG); and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has been presented with a form of such Agreement, and has examined and approved same as to both form and content, and desires to enter into same:

 
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT the President of this Board of Supervisors be, and is hereby authorized to, execute the Agreement with the City and County of San Francisco, for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board of Supervisors shall attest the President’s signature thereto.
