RESOLUTION

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION HONORING

NEVIDA BUTLER

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

   

WHEREAS, Ms. Nevida Butler has transformed the hardships of her own life into a deeply compassionate commitment of service to others in the East Palo Alto community; and

   

WHEREAS, Ms. Nevida Butler served as an Ecumenical Hunger Program (EHP) Board Member from 1979 to 1981; and

   

WHEREAS, in 1981 Ms. Nevida Butler became the Director of EHP and has continuously nurtured and grown the Ecumenical Hunger Program into the largest supplier of emergency food in the area; and

 

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Ms. Nevida Butler, EHP services have expanded to include distribution of clothing, furniture and household items as well as multiple support services for children and families including backpacks and school uniforms; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Nevida Butler has been acknowledged for her commitment to the community with numerous awards including the YMCA Women of Color Award, Career Action Center’s Woman of Power Award, Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce Community Service Golden Acorn Award, NAACP Award for Children, the Palo Alto Tall Trees Award, and has been inducted into the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Nevida Butler’s remarkable faith, compassion and respect for the dignity of others serves as an exemplary model of humanity that has inspired those around her.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors honors Ms. Nevida Butler for her outstanding leadership and passionate commitment to the East Palo Alto community and San Mateo County. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
