BACKGROUND

The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.

Our Employee of the Month for May 2007 is Gina di Gualco, an Information Technology Analyst in the Controller’s Office.

DISCUSSION

Gina began her career with the County in 1985 and has been with the Controller’s Office since 1994. Gina epitomizes continuous self-improvement, and all of her efforts to expand her skills and knowledge benefit everyone she works with. When Gina started work in the Controller’s Office in the Property Tax Division, she immediately began taking night courses in Computer Sciences and applied her new knowledge to solving Local Area Network (LAN) and programming issues. She became the Controller’s Office LAN manager, taking a new position in their Computer Information Systems Division. As she continued improving her skills through night classes, the Controller’s Office computing environment and WEB presence also continued to improve. She is instrumental in the publication of the Controller’s Popular Annual Financial Report and for publishing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report on the Controller’s internet page.

Gina now has decided to pursue a degree in Technical Writing. She has a natural talent for this, which is demonstrated in documents she has created for all County systems users. Her work is available on the Controller’s intranet page that she maintains. These IFAS User Documents and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are an invaluable resource to new system users as well as seasoned accountants. More recently Gina also developed most of the training materials for employees, supervisors and payroll specialists including the development of step-by-step “cheat sheets” which have been highly praised by the users of the system.

But it doesn’t stop there; she doesn’t just write great user documentation that helps all system users. Gina is also a talented programmer, system troubleshooter and tester. She has single handedly developed a structured testing and result reporting approach for the Automated Timekeeping System and is relied upon by all for her thorough and complete testing and results documentation. Gina has worked long hours, been on-call for user help, developed procedures and been a tremendous resource to the ATKS Project Team and the entire user community.

Those are some, but not all, of the specific accomplishments that make Gina a valuable member of the County family. In a broader sense, Gina brings to work with her, every day, an enthusiastic desire to solve problems, work thoughtfully and collaboratively, and improve the County’s working environment for all who rely on the systems she works on. She is a true treasure for the Controller’s Office.

Our County is fortunate to have Gina di Gualco as one of its outstanding employees.
