COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MAY 13, 2007 to MAY 19, 2007 AS

PEACE OFFICERS’ MEMORIAL WEEK 2007

WHEREAS, Peace Officers’ Memorial Week began in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, which was later changed to Peace Officers’ Memorial Week; and

   

WHEREAS, Peace Officers in San Mateo County safeguard life and property, protect people against violence and provide a vital public service to the community; and

   

WHEREAS, Peace Officers lost in the line of duty throughout the United States have their names inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial, which honors more than 15,000 officers dating back to the first known line of duty death in 1792; and

WHEREAS, Peace Officers in San Mateo County who have laid down their lives for us deserve not only our respect but our heartfelt gratitude and affection.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, proclaims the week of May 13, 2007 to May 19, 2007 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Week, to honor San Mateo County’s fallen officers and to recognize their service and sacrifice.
