RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICIAL TO ADMINISTER THE “CONFIDENTIAL VOTER” PROGRAM PROVIDED BY CALIFORNIA ELECTIONS CODE SECTION 2166.7

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, California Elections Code section 2166.7 became effective January 1, 2007 (SB 506, Chap. 466, and AB 2005, Chap. 472; Statutes of 2006), requiring county elections officials, if so authorized by the county board of supervisors, to administer a “confidential voter” program designed to maintain, for a renewable period of up to two years, the confidentiality of the voter registration information of specified persons within the class of “public safety officials,” as defined by law (Cal. Gov. Code § 6254.24 (a), (d), (e), (f), or (j)), who attest that a life-threatening circumstance exists to the official or a member of the official's family; and

 

WHEREAS, said program will help ensure the safety of public officials and employees whose positions in service to the community place them or a family member at risk of harm; and

 

WHEREAS, this county’s chief elections official has determined that this program is within the means and resources and appropriate to the purposes of his office, and recommends its adoption to this Board of Supervisors; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board of Supervisors has examined the statutory framework of the program and approves the recommendation of the county elections official;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors hereby authorizes the County’s elections official to administer the “confidential voter” program as provided by Elections Code section 2166.7 and related laws.
