RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING | ||||
Alfred Oscar Belotz | ||||
Upon the Celebration of His | ||||
80th Birthday | ||||

WHEREAS, Alfred Oscar Belotz was born June 10, 1927, in Fall River, Mass., the second child of Morris and Sally Belotz, and younger brother to Melvin. After a few years in the Bronx borough of New York City, the family settled in 1938 in Providence, RI; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Al lettered in football as No. 49, a right and sometimes left tackle for Central High School, graduated in 1945 and volunteered for the US Navy, serving at a seaplane base on Whidbey Island near Seattle; and | ||||
WHEREAS, after his discharge, Al joined the family in Vallejo, where he attended Vallejo College and then San Francisco’s Golden Gate College, earning in 1951 a bachelor’s degree in accounting; in Vallejo, Al also met Bernice Hanken, who he married on June 4, 1950, and together raised three children, Bruce, Carol and Judy; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Al soon opened his own firm, first at Market Street and Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco, but by 1954 had moved to an office in Daly City’s Westlake Shopping Center, where the practice remained until the early 1980s; Al retired in 1997; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Al played a key role in the creation of the Doelger Senior Center, plus the Supporters of Doelger Senior Center in 1982 and served as treasurer for 23 years; and | ||||
WHEREAS, throughout his life, starting with the Cub Scout Troop he guided as a 15-year-old, Al’s mantra has been “Never forget the community,” as he volunteered tirelessly with various groups, including the Boy Scouts, the Rotary Club, the Daly City-Colma Chamber of Commerce and Operation Santa Claus through the Daly City Fire Department. Al remains a highly respected and unmatched pillar of selfless, civic sacrifice in San Mateo County. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Alfred Oscar Belotz upon the celebration of his 80th birthday, and extends sincere wishes to him and his family for many more years of peace, health and happiness. | ||||
