THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

Karen Phillip

Superintendent, Millbrae School District

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Karen Phillip has served as the Superintendent of Millbrae School District since 1993 and has been responsible for the operation of the entire school system; and

   

WHEREAS, as Superintendent, Ms. Phillip served as an advisor to the Millbrae School Board in all of its deliberations, served as a liaison between the Millbrae School Board, the Millbrae Education Association, the California School Employees Association, the PTA Council, all District personnel, and the entire Millbrae community, including civic government and service organizations; and

   

WHEREAS, Ms. Phillip worked closely with site principals providing leadership for educational programs, supervised all certified personnel operations, monitored the District’s budget, and worked closely with the Chief Business Official to improve and expand buildings and site facilities; and

   

WHEREAS, Ms. Phillip was an Instructor at both San Francisco and San Jose State Universities, instructing graduate classes on teaching aphasic students and teaching an undergraduate course titled the Education of the Exceptional Child; and

   

WHEREAS, from 1990-1992, Ms. Phillip served as the Assistant Superintendent of the Millbrae School System where she directed the planning of the K-8 curriculum and directed the special education program; and

   

WHEREAS, after 15 years of service, Karen Phillip is leaving her position as the Superintendent of the Millbrae School District to become the Deputy Superintendent for the San Mateo County Office of Education.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on May 31, 2007, honors and commends Karen Philip, and thanks her for her excellent work as the Superintendent of Millbrae School District and her continued commitment and dedication to the field of education, and wishes her much success in her new position as Deputy Superintendent at the San Mateo County Office of Education.
