RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING | ||||
Arthur Toshio Ono | ||||
Upon the Celebration of His | ||||
100th Birthday | ||||

WHEREAS, Arthur Toshio Ono was born June 24, 1907, the only son of Ito and Suekichi Ono, and lived in Seattle until 1918, when the family returned to Japan; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in 1932, the Ono family returned to the United States, settling in the Bay Area, where Arthur worked in the shipping industry and in sales; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in 1942, as the United States entered World War II, Arthur and his parents were forced to relocate to an internment camp at Tule Lake, Calif., where they lived until war’s end in 1945; and | ||||
WHEREAS, upon his return to San Francisco, Arthur met Florence Kawamoto on a blind date in 1947 and married her two years later in Reno, Nev., and together they raised one child, Don, born in 1951; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Arthur supported his family doing everything from being an assistant cook at a restaurant to making traditional Japanese shoji screens to selling pottery, toys and clothing; he even played the violin in a community orchestra and eventually started a successful housecleaning business that he ran until retirement at age 89; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in his retirement, Arthur has become an avid collector of coins as well as stamps, while enjoying the company of friends and family. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Arthur Toshio Ono upon the celebration of his 100th birthday, and extends sincere wishes to him and his family for many more years of peace, health and happiness. | ||||
