RESOLUTION

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
|
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
|
RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING THE
|
SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
|
Upon its Twenty-Fifth Year Anniversary

|
WHEREAS, a small group of genealogy students met for the first time on July 22, 1982 in order to form the SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY with the purpose of promoting an interest in genealogy by providing guidance and mentoring to county residents wishing to trace their family histories; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, the first General Meeting of the SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY was held on October 13, 1982; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, the founding members of the SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY decided to offer members and the public monthly meetings and yearly seminars on genealogy topics and a regularly published newsletter with educational articles related to family history research; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, the SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY determined that establishment of a Genealogical Library was their primary goal; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, the SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY Library, which is open to the public, has now grown to include over 5000 books, periodicals and CD’s with family history information pertinent to San Mateo County, California, the United States and other countries; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY members are dedicated to accessing and cataloguing the historical records of all San Mateo County citizens; and, Society volunteers have indexed many San Mateo County vital records and the Schellens Collection, a 180 volume collection of people and places, covering all California counties with emphasis on San Mateo County and San Francisco County,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby recognizes the SAN MATEO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY for twenty-five years of service to genealogical researchers and commends their dedication to the preservation of San Mateo County records.
