RESOLUTION

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

Mike Meals

WHEREAS, Mr. Meals is a product of San Mateo, having attended St. Mathews Catholic School, Junipero Serra High, the College of San Mateo, and later San Francisco State; and

   

WHEREAS, Mr. Meals’ twenty years in the electrician’s union began when he followed in his father’s footsteps into the electrical trade, as did his brother Kevin, and after serving his International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker (IBEW) apprenticeship, Mr. Meals went on to serve Local 617 as an Executive Board Member, Organizer, Business Representative, and finally Business Manager, before then being called upon to serve as an (IBEW) International Representative, servicing (IBEW) Locals in Northern California and Nevada; and

   

WHEREAS, while with Local 617, Mr. Meals’ was instrumental in the construction of a new Apprenticeship building, the promotion and recruitment for the (IBEW) through the donation of scoreboards to the community and schools, and the establishment of a San Mateo Adult School program to promote futures in the local building trades; and

 

WHEREAS, under Mr. Meals’ leadership, Local 617 built a museum detailing the history of electricity and, therefore the (IBEW), in the lobby of the union hall, as well as a phone bank room for the San Mateo County Central Labor Council to help support candidates that promote the good of the community; and

   

WHEREAS, Mr. Meals’ motto is, “Surround yourself with good people, keep your focus on the community, and never say no when your help is needed. Keep Smiling.” and Mr. Meals’ believes that an important foundation for his success is his wife Janis, whose love and support allowed him to focus to succeed.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors expresses its sincere gratitude to Mike Meals for his outstanding contribution to the community of County of San Mateo and the Central Labor Council that he has proudly served.
