COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

H.I.P HOUSING

FOR THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF SERVICE PROVIDING PERMANENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING SOLUTIONS

WHEREAS, HIP Housing (Human Investment Project) is celebrating its thirty-fifth year of service providing permanent affordable housing solutions for low-income individuals and families at its Annual Luncheon event on June 21, 2007; and

   

WHEREAS, HIP Housing creates a place to call home for thousands of people in San Mateo County every year, including seniors, single-parents and their children, persons with disabilities, the homeless, and working persons; and

   

WHEREAS, HIP Housing instituted the Home Sharing Program in 1979 which has since made more than 13,000 home sharing placements, provides the most readily available affordable housing in the County, and is the largest home sharing program in the nation providing technical support to other agencies; and

   

WHEREAS, the Self-Sufficiency Program which enables low-income families to achieve self-reliance through housing and support services, has graduated over 200 individuals to date and was recognized by the California State Assembly Committee of Human Services as one of the Best Practices in CALWORKS; and

   

WHEREAS, HIP Housing sustains and expands the pool of affordable housing through the development and acquisition of properties, and today owns three group-share residences and 194 apartment units, manages eight rental properties, and also operates the Home Equity Conversion Program which provides objective third party counseling and information to seniors that enables them to remain independent in their own homes; and

 

WHEREAS, HIP Housing has met the housing needs of the community through programs that are extremely successful, innovative, and cost effective, and as such was inducted into the California Consortium’s Housing Hall of Fame.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on June 21, 2007, hereby congratulates HIP Housing for addressing the need for affordable housing in San Mateo County for over three decades.
