VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Responsive, effective and collaborative government.

Goal(s): Residents accept individual responsibility for contributing to the quality of life of the County as a whole.

BACKGROUND:

The Midcoast Stormwater Drainage Committee was created by the Board of Supervisors to develop solutions that effectively reduce the potential for flooding in the Midcoast, and to make recommendations, as necessary, to the Board of Supervisors.

The Committee is to be made up of a representative of the Midcoast Community Council (as selected by the Midcoast Community Council), the Director of Public Works, the Community Development Director, a community member (as selected by the Midcoast Community Council) and a general contractor (as appointed by the Board of Supervisors.) On May 15, 2007, the Board of Supervisors appointed Dennis Doherety as the general contractor representative on the committee.

DISCUSSION:

Katherine Slater-Carter is an elected member of the Midcoast Community Council and their chosen member representative to sit on this Committee. Stephen Lowens is a resident of Montara, and has been selected as the community representative member by Midcoast Community Council. Lisa Grote is San Mateo County’s Community Development Director. James Porter is San Mateo County’s Director of Public Works.

The Director of Public Works and the Community Development Director are categorical members of the committee, and will serve as long as they occupy their respective county positions. Pursuant to the Board of Supervisors standing rules for boards, commissions and advisory committees (Resolution 65019), the remaining members shall serve for fixed terms. It is recommended that those terms be for four years starting on July 1, 2007.
