RESOLUTION

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION HONORING

 

MARY ANNE O’SHEA

UPON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO

WHEREAS, MARY ANNE O’SHEA began her career in 1980 as a Group Supervisor at Hillcrest Juvenile Hall for San Mateo County Probation. Since that time, Mary Anne has worked in all phases of programs that focus on providing youth and families the possibility of living productive and fulfilling lives. Her commitment to youth and families continued on as a Deputy Probation Officer where she assisted with the development of the Family Preservation Program and worked closely with the Mental Health Agency and San Mateo County Office of Education. In 1994, she became a Probation Services Manager in the Juvenile Services Division supervising programs that included the Lakeview School and Day Treatment Program, Field Supervision and Crossroads/Family Preservation Program where she reduced out of home placement by 28%. She also developed programming for the Repeat Offenders Prevention Program, the Wraparound Program, and Electronic Monitoring. She acquired State funding and developed the Accelerated Resource Center; and

 

WHEREAS, MARY ANNE O’SHEA was appointed Director of Institution Services in 2001 where she led the design and development of the Margaret Kemp Girls Camp creating one of the first female gender-responsive rehabilitation programs in the United States. Additionally, she acquired a Juvenile Justice Accountability Grant to fund the Victim Impact Awareness Program and served on a county-wide task force to address Disproportionate Minority Confinement issues; and

 

WHEREAS, MARY ANNE O’SHEA has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Chief Probation Officers of California. She is affiliated with the California Association of Probation Institution Administrators, American Association of University Woman, and California Probation, Parole & Corrections Association; and

   

WHEREAS, MARY ANNE O’SHEA is a positive role model for past and present staff serving as a mentor to many colleagues on a personal and professional level. Mary Anne has worked diligently and unselfishly for 27 years serving the children and families of San Mateo County as an untiring advocate of the belief in the inherent strength of families and her efforts have helped establish programs that have positively impacted the lives of the people we serve.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, honor MARY ANNE O’SHEA for her leadership and passionate commitment to public service and the San Mateo County community. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
