THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING AUGUST 1-7, 2007 AS

NATIONAL CLOWN WEEK

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that; and

WHEREAS, National Clown Week was established in 1971 by a Presidential Proclamation; and

WHEREAS, the Golden Gate Clowns is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 dedicated to entertaining and educating the community, while supporting other charitable, volunteer, and non-profit organizations through the art of clowning; and

WHEREAS, Golden Gate Clowns has participated in hundreds of parades, helped raise money for cancer research, Muscular Dystrophy, AIDS, Special Olympics and has made visits to many hospitals and long term care facilities throughout the Bay Area; and

WHEREAS, Golden Gate Clowns regularly contributes to the Veterans Memorial Senior Center in Redwood City and Samaritan House’s Family Share Program, and participates in Dad & Me Staying Healthy at San Mateo Medical Center, San Carlos Hometown Parade, Senior Center BBQ at Red Morton Park in Redwood City, Fourth of July Parade in Redwood City, Sequoia High School’s Relay for Life, Festa Italiana in San Mateo and the Special Olympics in Redwood City; and

WHEREAS, Golden Gate Clowns is committed to serve and support all people who have been impacted by a catastrophe and to provide guidelines and train volunteers to work effectively with other humanitarian organizations; and

WHEREAS, Golden Gate Clowns bring smiles, joy, love and laughter while administering a unique form of comic relief; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED , the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors proclaims August 1-7, 2007 as National Clown Week, and encourages the community to recognize the contributions made by Golden Gate Clowns through its entertainment at childrens’ hospitals, charitable institutions, and generally helping to lift the spirits and boost the morale of all the people in our community.
