*ADELAIDE KELLER DAY* *In Honor and Remembrance of Adelaide Keller*

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo extends its deepest gratitude for Adelaide Keller’s service to the people of this County, and mourns the loss of a dedicated community member and philanthropist; and

WHEREAS, Adelaide Keller worked hard to support many charitable organizations in and around San Mateo County, including the Family Services Agency, the Shelter Network, HIP Housing, San Mateo Library Foundation, the Child Care Coordinating Council, and the San Mateo Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Adelaide Keller’s philanthropic and community service efforts were recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Adelaide Keller co-founded the Women’s Recovery Association in 1970 to assist women and adolescent girls struggling with substance abuse;; and

WHERAS, Adelaide Keller served on the San Mateo Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors from 1991-1996, during which time she led the popular “Bed Race and parade” fundraising event; and

WHEREAS, Adelaide Keller and her husband George gave generously to the San Mateo Medical Center and provided a “Challenge Grant” to ensure the success of a $12 million capital campaign; and

WHEREAS, Adelaide Keller spearheaded the creation of the Keller Center for Family Violence Intervention at the San Mateo Medical Center to show that more needs to be done to break the cycle of domestic violence.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates July 24, 2007, as Adelaide Keller Day, recognizes her remarkable legacy of generosity and community service, and extends its deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
